Buku Terbaru Haruki Murakami.

Buku ini terdiri dari delapan cerpen, yaitu: Cream, One a Stone Pillow, Charlie Parker Plays Bossa Nova, With The Beatles, Confession of a Shinagawa Monkey, Carnaval, The Yakult Swallows Poetry Collection dan First Person Singular. 

With The Beatles dan Confessionof a Shinagawa Monkey sudah saya ulas sebelumnya. Sila cek postingan sebelumnya. 

Mayoritas buku ini dipaparkan dengan sudut pandang orang pertama dan nostalgia masa mudanya. Beberapa ada pula fiksi seperti Confession of a Shinagawa Monkey dan Charlie Parker Plays Bossa Nova. Baik, saya akan memberitahu secara garis besar masing-masing cerita.

Cream menceritakan tentang si aku yang menerima undangan pertunjukkan piano dari seorang gadis yang ia temui dahulu saat sekolah piano. Ada unsur nostalgia di sini. 

"After death, everyone will be severely judged for his sins.”

One Stone Pillow memiliki unsur erotis yang menceritakan kisah nostalgia saat ia remaja dan bercinta dengan seorang penyair wanita yang selalu memanggil nama lelaki lain ketika ia ejakulasi. 

"You and I are we really so far apart? 

Should I, maybe have changed trains at Jupiter? 

When I press my ear against the stone pillow

The sound of blood flowing is absent, absent"

Charlie Parker Plays Bossa Nova memiliki unsur metafisika dan musik di dalamnya. Ini cerita fiksi. Seorang remaja menganalisis cerpen buatannya untuk mengulas album terbaru salah satu musisi jazz hebat.

 “You gave me life again, this one time. And had me play bossa nova. Nothing could make me happier. Of course being alive and actually playing would have been even more exciting. But even after dying, this was a truly wonderful experience. Since I always loved new music.”

Carnaval memiliki unsur persahabatan dengan wanita jelek yang memiliki pengetahuan luar biasa tentang musik klasik. Mereka membahas musik. 

"The piece is the ideal of playful music, but within that playfulness, you can catch a glimpse of the specters lurking inside the psyche. The playful sounds lure them out from the darkness.” She was silent for a while, and then continued. “All of us, more or less, wear masks. Because without masks we can’t survive in this violent world. Beneath an evil-spirit mask lies the natural face of an angel, beneath an angel’s mask lies the face of an evil spirit."

The Yakult Swallows Poetry Collection tentang menonton pertandingan baseball. Si aku merupakan penggemar tim baseball bernama Yakult Swallow, di mana ini tentang Haruki Murakami yang juga menyukai tim tersebut. Di cerita ini ia menceritakan pengalamannya sebagai penggemar tim Yakult Swallow dan puisi-puisi yang ia buat untuk tim tersebut. 

"What sort of galaxy did I cross to make that fleeting, dim star—the one that’s the hardest to locate in the night sky—my own lucky star?"

First Person Singular bukanlah cerita yang mengandung nostalgia, melainkan kesimpulan dari tujuh cerita sebelumnya. 

"And it wasn’t always like I was making a choice, but more like the choice itself chose me.) And now here I was, a first person singular. If I’d chosen a different direction, most likely I wouldn’t be here. But still—who is that in the mirror?"
